Ewan McGregor seems to be struggling to gain support from fans since splitting from his wife and stepping out with a girlfriend 14 years his junior – even after doing his bit for a charitable cause.
The dad, who split from Eve Mavrakis, 51, after two decades together, found himself on the receiving end of some very harsh criticism after he took to Instagram to raise awareness of the shark killing epidemic.
Despite the emotive message of the video, Ewan, 46, was blasted by users of the site saying he should care more about his own family than animals.
“Lets keep fighting against the use of any shark product and their senseless killing before it’s too late,” Ewan pleaded with fans.
But while some commended his efforts, the comment section was soon filled with speculation about the Fargo actor’s love life after he was spotted he’s been spotted smooching his co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
“Yes, care about sharks and not about your family. You, selfish and dumb man!” fired one.
The backlash comes after Ewan’s teenage daughter shared an emotional song on her social media appearing to reference her parents’ split.
In the Instagram video for self-penned ballad ‘Made You A Man,’15-year-old Esther sings “Seeing those pictures they made me cry.”
Some fans took the lyrics as a response to photos of Ewan kissing new girlfriend Mary Elizabeth last year.
Although Esther hasn’t directly said her song ‘Made You A Man’ was about her father, some fans were quick to draw comparisons.
“I hope it touches something deep in your father and brings him back from wherever he is,” commented one fan, ” said one follower.
While another described the lyrics as “so beautiful and so heartbreaking.”
Since leaving his wife of two decades last year, Ewan has been flaunting his new relationship with Fargo co-star Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
During his Golden Globes speech Ewan took the unusual step of thanking his wife and his new girlfriend.
The Scottish star won his first ever Globe when he took home best actor in a limited series for his role in Fargo.
Accepting his award on stage, he paid tribute to estranged wife Eve and his children.
He first said: “I want to take a moment to just say thank you to Eve, who always stood by me for 22 years, and my four children Clara, Esther, Jamyan and Anouk.”
The Star Wars actor then left viewers gobsmacked as he went on to mention Mary Elizabeth Winstead, his Fargo co-star who he left his wife for last year.
Production designer Eve 51, wed Ewan in 1995 but their marriage fell apart in 2017.
Fans – and Eve herself – were shocked when he suddenly split from her and embarked on a romance with Winstead.
