An amazing X-rated gallery of close-up pictures has captured a sight rarely seen – insects ‘getting it on’.

The picture set, which is admittedly quite bizarre, captures the bugs having sex – and the results are fascinating.

Indonesian macro-photographer Ery Budi Nurhudha has spent years shedding light on the hidden beauty of insects – including the occasional bout of ‘you know what’.

But the 32-year-old nurse, from Magelang in Central Java, said it’s very rare to actually catch bugs mating – making his gallery of racy snaps all the more extraordinary.

Ery said: “You need a lot of luck to catch insects mating, it’s definitely not something you see every day.

“It’s amazing to see how alike they are to humans in this way. They have to attract the opposite sex first.

“But the way they do this is still mysterious. It is not clear what makes them attracted to each other.”

Ery said capturing the moment of coitus without spooking the bugs into submission is an extremely delicate process.

His stunning X-rated gallery includes butterflies, dragonflies and grasshoppers all caught in the act.

Ery added: “It’s important to not move too fast and scare them, but you also have to seize the moment because it is usually quite short.

“Capturing secret moments like this is amazing.”
