Do you remember in 2000, when The Simpsons predicted that Donald Trump would one day be President of the United States?
Back then, in that happier time, it seemed daft and improbable – nothing but a good joke.
Fast-forward 17 years, and the joke is basically on us.
Trump becoming President is just one in a long line of eerie predictions the long-running TV show has made which came true.
Other instances of clairvoyance include predicting America’s Ebola breakout, corruption in FIFA and the invention of FaceTime.
However, they’ve proven to be WAY ahead of the curve with a particular recent event -by two decades in fact.
Earlier today, in a deal worth £39 billion, Walt Disney agreed to take control of Rupert Murdoch’s 20 Century Fox Inc.
Aside from the fact this is a staggering and almost surreal amount of money, this news is also even more remarkable because of The Simpsons.
In the episode titled ‘When You Dish Upon A Star’ which aired on 8 November 1998, one scene showed the outside of the 20 Century Fox studio.
Beneath the famous logo it reads “A Division of Walt Disney Co.”
This unsettling little nugget was later posted on Twitter by Darren Rovell with the caption: “Disney announces it has reached a deal to acquire 21st Century Fox, as predicted by a Simpsons episode that first aired on November 8, 1998.”
Our only question is – what other worrying happenings will The Simpsons predict next?
