Their romance has been likened to a fairytale – and that was just how Serena Williams and Reddit founder Alexis Ohanian wed.
With 200 A list guests, three spectacular dresses and even a carousel, the tennis champ made sure her wedding was the stuff of dreams.
Covered by fashion bible Vogue, the Serena and Alexis wedding captured the hearts of their fans, from the trophy-style favours (made up of all the tennis champs victories), to the magical style first dance – the cost of the nuptials ran over £2 millioon.
Here we take a look inside the magical wedding.
Vogue revealed Serena walked down the aisle in a Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen princess gown and cape, holding by a bouquet of white roses and sparkling with jewelry by XIV Karats.
The ensemble was worth a cool $3.5 million (£2.6million) in total.
Serena told Vogue: “I flew to London to meet with Sarah and ended up falling in love with the ball gown silhouette, which is completely the opposite of what I ever thought I would choose for myself.
“I loved the idea of doing a really spectacular ball gown, and it has turned out to be such an incredibly special piece.”
Alexis was in an Armani suit and the couple exchanged vows they wrote themselves.
Then after dinner Serena debuted her second dress of the evening – a Versace beaded short dress which, according to Vogue, “made her look like a fashion-forward superwoman.”
Donatella Versace said five seamstresses “worked nonstop to make sure the tiniest details were perfectly taken care of, for a total of 1,500 hours.”
Ever the romantics, the pair wrote their own vows and groom Alexis shared his beautiful words with his Instagram followers.
He said: “You are the greatest of all time, not just in sport–I’m talking about as a mother and as a wife. I am so excited to write so many more chapters of our fairy tale together.
“And my whole life I didn’t even realize it, but I was waiting for this moment. And everything that I have done, everything that I am so proud of in my career, and in my life, for the last 34 years, pales in comparison to what we’re doing today.
“And I am so grateful, and I am so in love.”
In a nod to Alexis’ heritage there was Armenian and Southern grub on offer.
Also, guests were treated to a around-the-world-themed dinner cooked up by Creative Edge Parties. Stars sat at four long tables named after Serena’s Grand Slam wins.
Also Italian food was served with a “steak house” station and a salad wall.
Guests included singers Kelly Rowland and Ciara, tennis player Caroline Wozniacki and Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, with the magazine having an exclusive on images from the event.
Also Kim Kardashian attended, telling Vogue she always knew Serena would marry Alexis.
She said: “I’ve known Serena for so long and am so happy she’s found her prince. From the moment she told me she met Alexis in Rome, it was like . . . she’s been so happy and has this light about her that is so special to see. You just know it is so real. He makes her so happy and that just makes her friends happy.”
And that end of party surprise
As the party was winding down at 1:30 a.m, hubby Alexis revealed the final surprise of the night.
Grabbing the mic, he revealed an illuminated, all-white carousel.
And that, is how you do a wedding party.
